Complex Chemistry in Star-Forming Regions: An Expanded Gas-Grain Warm-up Chemical Model

چکیده
Gas-phase processes were long thought to be the key formation mechanisms for complex organic molecules in star-forming regions. However, recent experimental and theoretical evidence has cast doubt on the efficiency of such processes. Grain-surface chemistry is frequently invoked as a solution, but until now there have been no quantitative models taking into account both the high degree of chemical complexity and the evolving physical conditions of star-forming regions. Here, we introduce a new gas-grain chemical network, wherein a wide array of complex species may be formed by reactions involving radicals. The radicals we consider (H, OH, CO, HCO, CH3, CH3O, CH2OH, NH and NH2) are produced primarily by cosmic ray-induced photodissociation of the granular ices formed during the colder, earlier stages of evolution. The gradual warm-up of the hot core is crucial to the formation of complex molecules, allowing the more stronglybound radicals to become mobile on grain surfaces. This type of chemistry is capable of reproducing the high degree of complexity seen in Sgr B2(N), and can explain the observed abundances and temperatures of a variety of previously

Important Atomic and Molecular Processes in Galactic Chemistry
We discuss a variety of processes important in determining the chemical composition within interstellar and circumstellar clouds. Much of the gas-phase chemistry has been well-studied in the laboratory, although we point out several processes for which information is scarce. In recent years it has become apparent that grain surface chemistry plays a much bigger role in synthesising molecules th...
متن کاملFormation of methyl formate and other organic species in the warm-up phase of hot molecular cores
Context. xxx Aims. The production of saturated organic molecules in hot cores and corinos is not well understood. The standard approach is to assume that, as temperatures heat up during star formation, methanol and other species evaporate from grain surfaces and undergo a warm gas-phase chemistry at 100 K or greater to produce species such as methyl formate, dimethyl ether, and others. But a se...
متن کاملMolecular evolution in star-forming cores: From prestellar cores to protostellar cores
We investigate the molecular abundances in protostellar cores by solving the gasgrain chemical reaction network. As a physical model of the core, we adopt a result of onedimensional radiation-hydrodynamics calculation, which follows the contraction of an initially hydrostatic prestellar core to form a protostellar core. Temporal variation of molecular abundances is solved in multiple infalling ...

Aims. We aim to investigate the chemistry and gas phase abundance of HNCO and the variation of the HNCO/CS abundance ratio as a diagnostic of the physics and chemistry in regions of massive star formation. Methods. A numerical-chemical model has been developed which self-consistently follows the chemical evolution of a hot core. The model comprises of two distinct stages. The first stage follow...

This paper will review the basic concepts of gas–phase and grain surface chemistry of dense molecular clouds, where low mass and high mass stars form. The chemistry of cold pre-stellar cloud cores, where molecular freezeout and deuterium fractionation dominate, will be presented. Then, following cloud evolution after protostellar birth, hot core and shock chemistry will be discussed in view of ...
